What is Iyengar yoga?

Iyengar yoga is a tradition of yoga developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, author of Light on Yoga and other yoga texts. It emphasises the practice of asana (postures), with attention to detail and alignment, that have a positive effect on body and mind.

What are the benefits of yoga?

Yoga develops strength, stamina, flexibility and posture. Regular practice not only increases your energy but also promotes emotional and mental well-being.

What should I wear?

Clothing should not restrict movement nor be too baggy. Footless leggings or shorts and a t-shirt are recommended. Yoga is practised in bare feet.

How do I start?

Either sign up for an Introductory Course – an eight week foundation for complete beginners, or come along to a Beginners Drop-in Class. It is not necessary to do an Introductory Course before coming to Beginners Casses. You may wish to come to a Drop-in Class to get a taste of yoga.

Do I need to bring a mat?

No, all equipment is provided at the Yoga Studio.

How often should I attend a class?

Come at least once a week. Some students come more often. Progress depends on regular attendance.

How can I get there by public transport?

The no. 50 bus passes the end of Park Road about 50m from the Yoga Studio. This is a frequent service so you won’t need to wait long for a bus. The no. 1 and no. 35 buses stop in Moseley Village, no more than 10 minutes walk from the Yoga Studio.

Is there any parking?

There is space for cars on the street. The very limited off-road parking in front on the forecourt includes a space reserved for disabled drivers. Please be sensitive to the needs of our neighbours when parking and remember there is often space available in Augusta Road and Augusta Road East. There are hoops on the forecourt where you can secure your bicycle.
